Finding the leaves for botanical printing can be a challenge to those who are new to the art form. This Summer, I have been traveling and have seen some gorgeous plants. I came across a beautiful walking path in Sevierville, Tennessee. The path was lined with many varieties of native trees, and a placard on a post was engraved to give each trees information. This is a brilliant project for a city! There is not better way to know the local plants than when they are clearly labeled.

I have included many of the tree’s placard of plants that I know give a great botanical print. Some will leave a print and others a negative image. Pictured are the many placards and hopefully these names may be familiar or in your neighborhood. If you have a botanical garden in your neighborhood do take time to go and look around. They are such a valuable resource.

Take a look at the generic names too. Sometimes they can give a hint of printability, such as acia or prunus or acer.
