Where has the Summer gone? Gee, it feels like yesterday we were looking at snow and hoping the Spring would be arriving soon. For myself, the Summer if flying by as I have been working with my online students and helping them succeed.

How are you getting on with your Eco Printing? Right now there is plenty of tannin in your leaves here in North America to get some fabulous prints.

Announcement: Over the past 5 years of teaching students from around the globe, there seems to be one difficulty. That is students finding the ‘right’ time to take a course. Sometimes the dates just don’t align with their interest and schedules. Even now post covid we have more time to do a variety of activities. During the past few weeks I have been making all of my online courses to now be On Demand, you know sort of like when you want to watch a movie and have the time to watch. Eco Printing success comes when you are able to focus on the subject and have the time to do the work. The On Demand courses are 4 months of access. Masterworks – Advanced Botanical Printing will begin on Aug 15. This is the only course that is not on demand this year. I like to work with my students in this course and see them through the advanced techniques. This is a very specialized course and designed for those who are seeking depth and surface interest in their prints. Tip: Plan you printing adventures a day or two in advance, so when you actually start to print your workspace is tidy and ready for your creative hands.

1) If you are going to be printing, make sure the fabrics are well scoured.

2) Decide what process you want to utilize and gather the necessary dyes or mordants. There is a lot of decision making that can be done in advance and will help your outcomes to plan.

3) If you are using iron blankets, make sure they will be the right size for your project.

4) Set up your work area so that all of the bundling supplies are close at hand.

5) Gather your leaves the evening before and place the stems into water.

6) Layout or arrange as much as possible on your work table

7) Now get busy and print!
